1870s Boston Cabinet Card Family Portrait – Patten & Stratton, 47 Hanover St.

Description:
Original 19th-century cabinet card photograph from the early 1870s, produced by Patten & Stratton, Photographers of 47 Hanover Street, Boston, successors to Turner. This studio imprint dates the card to approximately 1870–1876.

The image depicts a seated adult man with four children in a formal studio setting. Period clothing includes patterned dresses with white collars, striped stockings, and a traditional sack-style jacket with cravat. The composition is well balanced and typical of early New England family portrait photography.

Mount is cream colored with rounded corners and a clean, legible photographer’s imprint on the reverse. Image retains good contrast and clarity for its age, with only light, age-appropriate wear. No cracks or major damage observed.

An excellent example of early Boston photography and a strong addition for collectors of Victorian-era cabinet cards
