This is the first card in a very tough, yet overlooked prewar set. Lefty Grove was a dominant pitcher in his day. Many baseball experts feel Grove may be the best left-handed pitcher in baseball history. Grove finished his career with a 300-141 record, resulting in an astonishing winning percentage of .680, which is the highest of any pitcher to win 300 or more games. From 1927-1933, Grove won 20 or more games each and every season, including an incredible season where he went 31-4 with a 2.06 ERA. While he will be remembered primarily for being the ace of the Philadelphia Athletics, Grove did have a few productive seasons with the Boston Red Sox before his retirement. Grove was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1947. Measuring approximately 23/8" by 27/8" and rarely offered in high-grade, this is one of the toughest #1 cards in the hobby.
