A gorgeous 1920's sterling silver and Morpho butterfly wing brooch. This antique piece features a stunning oval etched glass cabochon depicting a tropical beach scene bezel set into a detailed filagree work sterling silver setting. Marked "sterling" on back. 1 1/2" in total length. In fine antique condition. Only noted flaw a small divet along outside of sterling frame. Authentic antique pieces should show some signs of their age. A "perfect" antique piece is a suspect piece.
During the 1920's a particular type of English jewelry became quite popular. Made from sterling silver and enclosing a delicate wing of a South American Morpho Butterfly under a glass cabochon, the inside of the glass would frequently be etched with a tropical scene prior to placement over the butterfly wing.
