Ayaka Yamamoto (Yamamoto Ayaka)

Ayaka Yamamoto was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1983. She graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, Painting Course, Faculty of Fine Arts, Kyoto Seika University in 2006. Initially, she majored in painting at university, but gradually shifted to creating performance and video works using her own body. She began taking photographs after studying abroad in San Francisco in 2004.

This book, “We are made of Grass, Soil, Trees, and Flowers,” adds the word "Flowers" to the title of her previous work published in 2018, expressing the continuation of the concept of her works.

Yamamoto has photographed in Eastern European countries, and in parallel, she has also taken photographs in Malawi, Africa, as well as in Hokkaido and Okinawa in Japan. The accumulated sense of belonging, such as the culture, customs, and beliefs of the lands she visited and the people who live there, is comprehensively accepted and incorporated into her creations. As an extension of her previous work, this work expands to a more intimate perspective, conveying the quiet excitement of the artist, who is captivated by the moment when the soft light of nature and the unconscious figures of the subjects intersect.
