In the 1960s, the U.S. Army Procurement Agency in Japan chose to procure camouflage uniforms in Japan. This was due to the country's advanced printing technology, rapid production capabilities, and cost-effectiveness. The patterns were left to the discretion of factories across Japan, which led to the countless variations of the tiger stripe pattern. Many of the early tiger stripe uniforms were made in Japan, but some were sewn in Okinawa using fabric sent from Japan, and production also occurred in Thailand and the surrounding areas of Vietnam during the later stages of the Vietnam War. These shorts are a Buzz Rickson's original, modified by cutting the length of the pants. Full-length pants using the same fabric, "Lot No. BR40903," are also available.
