An unusual antique wooden dog carrier by A. Backus, Jr & Son from the early 1900’s with a signed medallion on the front. Absalon Backus Jr (1824-1901) and his sons were manufacturers of dog crates and woven boxes in Detroit, MI. Henry M. Backus patented this dog crate in 1902, patent number 698782, designed for shipping fine dogs and other valuable animals for well-heeled clientele. The kennel features an arched roof, with a door in the front and a spring-loaded chute below for food or water. Brass trim throughout. Lots of storage possibilities. With some favorite bedding would still make a fantastic little nest for Frisky, Fido, or Fluffy, and a great conversation piece. Measures 26L x 19W x 24H. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. Excellent overall condition, with with general expected wear from age and use. Structurally very sound
