Escape from New York is a 1981 dystopian action film directed by John Carpenter and set in a near-future where Manhattan has been turned into a maximum-security prison. When Air Force One crashes into the island, ex-soldier and convict Snake Plissken—played by Kurt Russell in one of his most iconic roles—is sent in to rescue the President. The film also stars Lee Van Cleef, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Isaac Hayes, and Adrienne Barbeau.
