This colorful antique Frie Onnaing majolica pitcher was made by Faïencerie d'Onnaing, located in northwestern France near the border of Belguim. Onnaing was founded in 1821 by Charles de Bousies and was in production until 1938. The company was quite prolific and produced a variety of pieces including planters, vases, figural and anthropomorphic pitchers, umbrella stands, coin banks and other items.

This particular pitcher is from Onnaing's Rustic range and is known as "Flamands", which translates from French as "Flemish". The piece features a group of Flemish revelers dancing and drinking to music in an outdoor setting next to a large stone wall. The pitcher's thick handle resembles a large tree trunk or vine which spreads out at the top of the piece to form a lush band of leaves and berries. The opposite side of the pitcher is also decorated with a tree motif. The tree rises from the base of the piece and terminates in a mask head spout depicting Bacchus, the god of wine. The interi
