Gettin' In The Mood
A hidden gem of a soul album released in the late 70s by Mandrill, the best funk band known for their unique cross-over sound that mixes a wide range of musical styles from Latin/Rock/Afro! Featured in the "U.S. Black Disc Guide"!
Street funk, Latin & jazz harmonies, wonderful melodies, soulful vocals, a blazing horn section, and a churning rhythm section... Alongside Sly and War, they developed a cross-over funk sound. Their second and third albums after moving to the Arista label, and their 7th and 8th overall, are now coupled on CD, featuring classics like "Fencewalk" and "Fat City Strut," which are also popular as sample material. With a five-member band lineup, they transitioned to a more soulful sound. "New World" is a masterpiece with beautiful melodies and vocals & harmonies, including the mega-hit mellow dancer "Too Late" and "Stay Tonite," which were released as singles. The following album, "Gettin' In The Mood," is also a superb work in terms of sound and vocal harmony, with mid-tempo dance classics like "My Kind Of Girl" and the upbeat "Feeling Good." A fantastic soul album that dispels the image of hard-hitting funk.
