A pair of early 20th-century American Art Metal era bookends featuring the classical mythological subject of Cupid and Psyche. The relief sculptures depict the classic scene of Cupid and Psyche and illustrates the moment Cupid (the winged figure) revives the unconscious Psyche with a kiss or embrace. This was a very popular subject in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, symbolizing the triumph of love over adversity. These pieces are made of weighted spelter with a bronze-clad finish, a common and durable production method from the 1920s and 1930s. The reverse of each bookend is stamped 511.

The pair is in good vintage condition, consistent with age. There is typical wear to the high relief areas (faces and wings) where the bronze finish has naturally thinned to reveal the underlying metal, lending the pieces an authentic patina.
