Spatsizi by T. A. (Tommy) Walker

"A youthful craving for an outdoor life drove me to foresake the dreary walls of a London office for a rather dubious future in an isolated valley deep in the Coast Range of central British Columbia." So began the author's search for an unaltered wilderness area which first led him to the beautiful Bella Coola Valley and ultimately to SPATSIZI-land of the Red Goat.

Born in 1904 at Gravesend, Kent in England, T.A. (Tommy) Walker studied brewing and malting and in 1923 he joined a London firm of grain importers specializing in California barley. He left England in 1929 and emigrated to the Bella Coola Valley in British Columbia. Here, he cleared land for a farm, helped build and operate Stuie (later Tweedsmuir) Lodge and became a professional guide and outfitter. He was instrumental in establishing Tweedsmuir Park in 1937.
