Eugene Delacroix's artistic journey began at the 1821 Salon with 'Dante and Virgil', a romantic and chilling masterpiece that captivated the French government. In 1824, 'The Massacre at Scio' solidified his reputation as an intellectual and a champion of the downtrodden. A trip to England in 1825 inspired more romantic works, culminating in 1830 with 'Liberty Leading the People', a powerful portrayal of revolution and its casualties. Despite the failure of the 1830 Revolution, Delacroix continued to create literary and exotic pieces, like those inspired by his 1832 trip to Morocco. His admiration for Renaissance art led him to explore themes of animals, musicians, religion, and grand murals. Delacroix's art is vibrant and alive, even in its quieter moments, with portraits that radiate intensity.
