VINTAGE BRASS PLATED HANDING SPRING BALANCE SCALE OR FISH SCALE

This is a vintage brass-plated hanging spring balance scale, also known as a pocket balance or fish scale. It is a spring-loaded scale used for weighing items by hanging them from the hook. constructed with a brass-plated front and an iron with a heavy-duty spring mechanism. These scales were commonly made with various weight capacities, such as up to 25 pounds (or 11 kg) or 50 pounds (or 22 kg/56 lbs), and are marked in both kilograms and pounds. Historically used by peddlers, in country stores, for fishing, weighing luggage, or garden harvests. This is an antique item showing signs of wear and patina. While functional, the accuracy of older spring scales cannot always be guaranteed. This is from an estate sale and is usable and in great vintage condition. Wonderful primitive decor.
