Monarch: King George VI (1936-1952).
Year of Issue: 1944.
Denomination: Sixpence (worth 6 old pennies, half a shilling, or 1/40th of a pre-decimal pound).
Composition: 50% silver, 50% manganese. The silver content was reduced from 92.5% in 1920 due to rising silver prices, and completely removed in 1947.
Reverse Design: Crowned royal cypher "GRI" (Georgius Rex Imperator - George, King and Emperor) dividing the date, with the legend "FID DEF IND IMP" (Fidei Defensor, Indiae Imperator - Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India).
Cultural Significance: Sixpences, including those from the George VI era, are famously considered lucky and are part of traditions like being slipped into a bride's shoe or stirred into a Christmas pudding.
