This is a very cool note to have in your collection. Red seal $5 bills were printed in only three years: 1928, 1953 and 1963. Why did they make red seal bills at all? Why only three years? Why those particular three years? Someone must know; I do not. Another interesting fact about these red seal $5 bills is that they were ALL printed in Washington DC.

At any rate, this example is a well circulated bill. Who knows how many places it has been! It made purchases all through most of the 1960s, was in the pockets of disco dancers in the 1970s, and may have been used to consume cocaine in the 1980s. Who knows? It has a very suspicious looking stain, in the upper left corner of the obverse.... Those were crazy times!
