Here's a tested, functional Asus Sabertooth X79 with the I/O shield, an i7-3930K CPU, and 16GB DDR3-1600 running in quad-channel.
The only real quirk is that DIMM_C1 doesn't seem to recognize RAM, but all other RAM slots work fine, meaning that you can still run 32GB of DDR3 in quad-channel with four 8GB DDR3 sticks.
